The Technology Incubator at An-Najah University participated with two projects in the Expotech 2011 which was held in Ramallah. Expotech is a major week-long event that is held annually to showcase the success stories and to expose the many projects made in the field of information technology in Palestine.
The two projects that the University showcased at Expotech were the “Busmah Web” project by Bilal Bsharat, Hamdan Eid and Dyaa Barakat. The project provides web content (News, articles, images, video, social networks…etc). The content is made available to users in a single social page where they can create a user profile; the page also displays commercial ads to the users according to their own interests.
The other project was the “Auto Summary” project by Wisam Abbasi; the project main function is to summarize articles and books according to certain criteria specified by the user. This project is a pioneering one since it introduces a novel idea and supports both Arabic and English.
Visitors to the event expressed their admiration by the two projects and many investors expressed their interest in the ideas that the students have conveyed through their work.
The Information Technology Incubator was established to support the students’ distinguished projects through offering technical and office services and consultancy. It also supports the students in developing their ideas to transform them from abstract concepts to productive and marketable projects.
Engineer Khaled Barham, Director of the IT Incubator and the Korean-Palestinian IT Institute of Excellence, said the projects showcased by the University have attracted many visitors and caught the attention of several investors who are interested in novel ideas and creative projects. He added that the IT Incubator will work hard to market the incubated projects and develop them into real-life companies.
